NEWS: 30 SEPT: International Folk Rock legends MAGNA CARTA to perform @ die Boer!! R150
Yes its True !! Magna Carta is one of the longest running acoustic acts in the world. Founded by North Yorkshireman Chris Simpson in 1969, they have toured 64 countries so far, sold 8,000,000 albums world-wide, and performed 29 tours for the British Council as far afield as the Rain Forests of South America, the Arctic highway in Norway, the Himalayas, Iraq and the deserts of the Oman. One of the most travelled outfits on the planet, they have an unbelievable array of stories and experiences. Real troubadours.
It was the albums ‘Seasons’ and the magnificent classic ‘Lord of the Ages’, that put them on the world map. From London’s Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to the Montreux Festival and Lisbon Opera House and the Canterbury Festival in Ontario,Canada, to the ancient souk in Damascus, Syria, their timeless music has woven its magic across every kind of audience and nationality. .. and now they are coming to die Boer… need I say more?? 3 & 4 JULY: DIE AVONTURE VAN PIPPIE LANGKOUS R40
Die Boer se voortreflike Liewe Heksie en die Wals word opgevolg met ‘n nuwe treffer deur dieselfde span. Pippie Langkous, of te wel Pippalotta Provianda Rolgordyna Kruisementa Efraimsdogter Langkous, bly in Huis Winderuis saam met haar Perd en apie, Meneer Jakobs. Maar hoewel daar niks grootmense is nie, is Pippie niks bang nie. Nee, want die lewe is vir haar ‘n groot avontuur. Op ‘n dag besoek haar Oumagrootjie haar met ‘n brief en kaart met skatte op van haar pa, die mensvreterkoning van die Kerrieklappereiland. Pippie moet die brief soos goud op pas. Maar daar is ‘n honger seerower wat alte graag in Pippie se erf rond snuffel. Om nie te praat van die nare mensvreter (nie Pippie se pa nie- hy is ‘n liewe mensvreter) wat graag sy kloutjies op die skatte wil kry. Kom kyk hoe draf hierdie rooikop dogtertjie die hele wêreld kaf.
3 & 4 JULY: DAN PATLANSKY & GUESTS R80
Master guitarist Dan Patlansky returns with a brand new show and a FANTASTIC new album , that will undoubtedly cement his place as one of the greatest blues guitar players in the world today! Proper blues gigs are hard to find in South Africa and a really good three-piece blues-band is even rarer, so when you do find them, they are to be treasured. In a three-piece set-up, there is nowhere for a mediocre player to hide, but for a master of his craft, this is the platform of choice. There is space for the musicians to explore, every subtle bend of a string, every tiny tickle of a cymbal can be savoured and this is exactly what you can expect at a Dan Patlansky show!
Blues can be played on most instruments, but it is on the electric guitar that this genre really comes into its own, and Dan Patlansky is one of the finest exponents of this art-form you will ever see. Later in the show Dan will be joined on stage by local bluesman Gerald Clark (Delta Blue) and piano master Rupert Mellor ( McCully Workshop). Whatever you do, don’t miss it!
6 & 7 JULY: KARIN ZOID
Karen Zoid can be described as the female South African rock artist of the past decade. Zoid has grown from being a teenage busker on the streets of Johannesburg to one of the finest songwriters and live performers this country has ever seen. The show is a carefully crafted acoustic set and her band is composed of lead guitarist,co-writer and husband, Don Reinecke and Rixi Roman on bass guitar
Her songs, both in English and Afrikaans, are regarded as poetry. In fact, her songs are part of the first year university curriculum in Afrikaans at some universities! A show not to be missed.
