July: OPEN TUESDAY. Once again die Boer will be showcasing some very accomplished musicians on our Open evening. The well known jazz pianist ROYSTON STOFFELS will perform at die Boer in a jazz trio of top musicians. With him is the renowned bass guitarist Paul Savage and on drums will be Adrian Becker. The music can be described as an original “smorgasbord” of jazzy/rocky/folksy/Capey sounds that is unmistakebly South African. Entrance are free. Have a bite to eat if you so wish, otherwise relax with a glass of red wine and listen to some of the best jazz in Cape Town.
Also performing on OPEN TUESDAY will be superb Cape Town singer-songwriter TAMARIN SEED. Tamarin's music is very truthful and tangible. She writes beautiful, catchy melodies that will replay in your head again and again. One of Tamarin’s songs, "Sweet Thing" was aired on the programme "Going Nowhere Slowly". The song "Beside Me' was play-listed on 5fm Radio. "Head up" and "Circle of Love" were play - listed on CCFm Radio. Her influences include Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Sting. Her voice is a cocktail of Alanis Morrisette, Karen Carpenter, Tracy Chapman, Carol King, Dido, Edie Brickel and a hint of Tasmin Archer. Tamarin Seed has received great interest in her music from international record companies and international artists like Chad Kroeger and Nickelback.
July.. HEATHER MAC & The Brills. R70 Fans of the “Eighties” will remember HEATHER MAC as the front-lady for sensational South African rock group ELLA MENTAL. She has since teamed up with four other brilliant solo artists in their own right to form a band called THE BRILLS. Imagine a band of four singer-songwriters, each with their own discernable songs and sound, four different voices, each with the ability to touch your heart and soul. The Brills is made up of Heather Mac, (vox, guitar) who in the early nineties performed in many prestigious shows overseas, including the Montreux Jazz Festival. Since returning to SA she has performed in a number of productions with Jazzart and created music/theatre shows that have toured the country. Ian Cohen (vox, bass) was the bass player with internationally recognized SA band, Bright Blue. Their 90’s hit ‘Weeping’ has just been covered by Josh Groban. He brings his own brand of vocals and acoustic bass playing to the mix. Tonia Selley’s (vox, perc, guitar) previous band ‘The Pressure Cookies’ had great radio play with their hit ‘Don’t call me Baby’ and she is an accomplished percussion player and vocalist. She is also Nataniel’s percussionist. and backing vocalist whenever he is performing. Mark Harris has accompanied Heather Mac in solo performances for the last ten years. He has played a key role in many top bands and has a great following whenever he plays his Tom Waits tribute show. DON’T MISS!
