Boulevard Blues & Guests

Boulevard Blues Band have established themselves as the official torchbearers for this brand of rootsmusic in South-Africa. They are widely regarded as one off the tightest, most professional and well rehearsed bands around, but together with die Boer, they have recently decided to dedicate a part of their show to a special “Bluesjam with Friends” This is a tradition that have long exised in other “Blues-Temples” around the world. This adds an “unrehearsed, seat of your pants” kind of feel to the show and just emphasize the ability of this band to handle anything that gets thrown at them at the “spur” of the moment. One never knows what could happen next!..

Picture the following scene:
If you’ve ever had the priveledge of walking the streets of places like New Orleans; Chicago and New York at night, you might have been lucky enough to stumble upon the following scenario: You enter one of the hundreds of live music venues tucked away somwhere, there is an excellent bluesband playing on the stage and you grab yourself a place at the bar. Every now and then the band invites some guest artist from the audience that is invariably a great musician in his own right and a “serious” blues-jam develops! You decide this is the place to stay, you drink too many beers and just as you decide to leave , it happens! Out of the blue, someone the likes of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Vaughn or Buddy Guy “appears” out of the audience and join the resident band for a song or two before they disappear again!

We may not have these superstars in Durbanville, but you can expect a similar experience if you attend a Boulevard Blues show at die Boer. The Western Cape has plenty of excellent musicians and there are always one or two of them “crawling out of the woodwork” on one of these very popular evenings. Its certainly worth a visit – you never know what surprises might be in stall for you..

The Band:
Legendary lead vocalist Dr John Mosterd is the frontman for this bunch of top muso’s and with his unique voice and relaxed stage demeanor, he has to be the coolest dude around! One don’t stumble upon a voice like his too often. Years of practice, use (and some abuse..) have honed and tempered it to an instument of very special quality

Guitar wizard Richard Pryor has just been endorsed by Fender, an honour that is bestowed upon only a few of the very best. Add the “people’s favourite” Greg Smith on harmonica and percussion and the superb “engine-room” of Graham Abbott on drums and Robbie Stemmet on bass and you are guaranteed 90 mins of electric blues at its very best.
